Company assets increasingly being managed using fleet software, reports FleetCheck

A wide range of company assets are increasingly being managed using fleet management software, FleetCheck is reporting.

Key factors such as location, compliance and even rates of theft can be monitored for almost any item by using the technology in a growing trend, explained Peter Golding, CEO.

“Most fleet managers have long realised that assets directly linked to cars and vans can be managed using their fleet software, from dashcams to tow hooks.

“However, more and more, we are seeing a wide range of non-fleet items being monitored in the same way. This might include obvious examples such as tools and parts but we even have a housing association that lists items such as microwave ovens and furniture.”

Ideally, each item being managed is given a QR code or other unique identifier, he explained, enabling information on its current location, compliance status and general condition to be easily registered on the system.

“This allows everything from expensive, major items to be tracked through to easily lost or stolen smaller pieces of kit. For example, expensive protective clothing such as masks and gloves often go missing – and our technology gives fleet managers visibility over who is regularly asking for replacements.”

Additionally, fleet software enabled the whole life cost of any asset listed on the system to be calculated in exactly the way as a company vehicle, he said.

“Whatever the item, the principles are the same, and the software can create genuine insight into real world costs and help identify where savings can be made.”

Peter added that the subject had been a key point of discussion at FleetCheck’s first ever Customer Conference, held at Resorts World Birmingham to coincide with the Commercial Vehicle (CV) Show 2026.

“There was much appreciation from delegates of the value that fleet software delivers but also recognition that many users have more opportunities to leverage the system in ways beyond vehicle and driver compliance, and the possibility of extended asset management very much caught the imagination of the room.”
