New FleetCheck partnership with BIFA aims to increase car and van safety standards

A new partnership with fleet software specialist FleetCheck is aiming to increase car and van safety standards among the members of the British International Freight Association (BIFA).

Pawel Jarza, Policy, Compliance and External Affairs Director at BIFA, explained that members of the trade association were very strong at compliance for commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes that require an Operator’s Licence, but were seeking more guidance on smaller units.

“Ensuring safe operation of larger vans and trucks of all kinds is very much a cornerstone of operations for companies involved in freight movement and the standards we see throughout BIFA are extremely high.

“However, smaller vans and cars are a much less regulated area and it is here we believe there is demand from our members for information and practical help that will help to promote safety and ultimately reduce incidents.

“Working with FleetCheck to provide these services will be a potentially important enhancement to the services we provide to members – preventing just one serious accident would make this work worthwhile – and we are pleased to be forming this new partnership.”

As part of the arrangement, FleetCheck will produce a new guide to fleet safety fundamentals customised to the organisation’s needs and organise a fleet safety webinar.

Barrie Wilson, commercial fleet consultant at FleetCheck, said: “We have adopted a new strategy in recent months of creating in-depth partnerships with major trade associations, and BIFA is the second to be announced.

“While these relationships may ultimately deliver new commercial benefits for us, the impetus comes very much from our desire to use our expertise to promote fleet safety through as many channels as possible, and we are delighted to be working with BIFA.”

With more than 1,700 members, BIFA is the trade association for UK registered companies engaged in the international movement of freight by all modes of transport, air, road, rail and sea, and customs brokerage.
